The Edge Malaysia, November 11, 2019 - Building A Path to Conscious Capitalism

Science of Life Studies 24/7, or SOLS 24/7 is known for its education outreach programmes. But now, it is making waves in renewable energy. Its sister outfit, SOLS Energy, is bringing innovation to the country's renewable energy sector, with significant developments in its back-end technology. It is with this edge that the social enterprise - a high-power solar company - managed to secure RM500,000 in funding from early-stage venture fund and seed accelerator, 500 Startups' Southeast Asia-focused 500 Durians II fund.

June 10, 2019 - The Edge Malaysia - Waste Not, Want Not

A chance encounter with food waste in the back alley of a restaurant in Victoria Street, Penang, left Calvin Chan Yi Xuan pondering about the incident for a long time afterwards. The smell of baked goods wafting through the air, even after being binned, piqued his curiosity as well as that of his partner's. What they discovered was that pastries that were still in good condition had been discarded at the end of an outlet's business day.

Crossing Borders, Together!

One other practice that Monitor ERP has introduced to its Malaysian subsidiary is of non-hierarchical communication between management and employees, which is used to facilitate problem-solving. In this situation, discussions are full and frank, and everyone is able to comment and come up with ideas within the group in order to find the best possible solutions to problems. Then there is the Swedish practice of Fika, which is a break during work at which they all gather to drink coffee or tea and chat about whatever comes to mind. As they need to get new employees up and running fast, they feel like there is no better way than being able to ask questions whenever they arise.

Exterminating Pests Globally with Anticimex

Leveraging on its repertoire as a globally renowned brand, the Anticimex Group entered the Malaysian market in 2017 - further cementing its ASEAN presence. The Group laid the groundwork with the acquisition of a home-grown pest control company known as DC Hygiene (now known as Anticimex), due to its coverage and growth potential in Malaysia. The acquisition strategy bodes well for Anticimex, as a way to expand their business into new, international markets such as Malaysia. By securing a local company in the same industry, it expedites the learning curve and allows for better market penetration.
