Back in 2018, Malaysia produced over 19.5 million tonnes of crude oil palm from a planted area of 5.8 million hectares. The total export of palm oil and palm-based products was 25.2 million tonnes, which generated export earnings of RM 67.5 billion. But palm oil has encountered a lot of negative headwinds regarding how its farming practices have resulted in deforestation.
