Igniting the “fiery” spirit for Agropreneurship

“There needs to be a shift in a larger scale at the grassroots, to ensure a robust agroindustry. At GrasiCili, we’ve realised that when we combine contract farming, a good business model, and social enterprise into the equation, we will be able to elevate the community of the nation, especially those in the B40 group. This is how we ensure a sustainable agroindustry, while empowering the people behind it,” says Munir as he explains the idea that led to GrasiCili.

Inspiring an Exceptional “Breed” of Contract Farmers

In the 21st century, digital transformation and technology allow business to operate more efficiently. However, this does not necessarily mean a huge investment worth tens of thousands of ringgit. Alternatively, farmers can take the initiative to implement technology in a smaller, more affordable scale. In the case of Tube Ventures, the entire 0.6 farm hectare is installed with 4G Gateway, allowing full access to the Internet of Things (IoT) devices over data network connection. Helping the day-to-day operations, farmers could perform tasks more efficiently – for example, viewing the live-feed of the chickens, and even controlling lighting or watering system simply from their mobile phone devices.

Providing a Conducive Working Environment with QE(5S) Implementation

"The primary objective of the Quality Enviroment (QE(5S)) implementation is to provide a conducive environment for the staff at the warehouse. As a material handling manufacturer, the daily tasks revolve around the usage of heavy duty materials and equipment that are risky and might cause harm if it is not properly conducted by the staff. Hence, TMP initiated an informal QE(5S) practice among the staff to reduce the tendency of the accidents. Years later, after TMP was chosen by MPC to join the SPPE program, QE(5S) is finally being formally practised to yield the best output for the business operation. MPC has guided us step-by-step on the implementation which benefited us the most with its impacts. The project demonstrates a significant difference in the work processes at the warehouse where it reduces the finding time to look for documents and tools at the rack, besides allowing the staff to properly utilise the warehouse space. We would sustain a continuous-improvement culture at TMP to leverage long-term profits and benefits in the future." -Mr.Ter Leong Leng, Chief Executive Officer (CeO), Top Mech Provincial Sdn Bhd

Lean Initiatives, Solving The Laundry Service Business Delay in Deliveries Issue

Customer satisfaction is the highest priority for The Laundry Place Sdn Bhd (TLP) because our company is not a manufacturer but we are a dry-cleaning service provider since 2013, which directly deals with our customers. Any grumble especially from our high-end customers cannot be ignored to retain them to be our loyal customers. Our company business is labour-intensive, all staff are the main assets of the company and each one of them plays an important role to ensure business sustainability. The involvement of TLP in the LEAN project guided by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) allows employees to be exposed to the customer’s need and constantly make improvements in the existing work processes. This has helped the company dwindle wastages and at the same time increased productivity and employees’ efficiency. -Mr Mohd Hisyammuddin Bin Kalam, Director, The Laundry Place Sdn Bhd

"Santika’s focus evolved away from being just another Malaysian homestay into a place of unique experiences, highlighting authentic Javanese-Malaysian identity; one in which even natives of Java would find interestingin its inter-mixed evolution inMalaysia. Santika Hulu Langat truly hasgreat potential in being highlighted as a tourist attraction when it is packaged and branded with its unique offerings. Which was why in 2019 the Santika Musical Village package was introduced after taking into consideration the trend and demand of domestic and foreign tourists who were interested in both food and musical attractions. The readiness to evolve or change was a key element in making Santika a success, as it would be for other lagging places that are willing to change and make tourism in Malaysia on par with other countries in the world.” Mr. Hasan Muhamad Suyat, Manager, Santika Hulu Langat.
